The Old Faithful Hat
The name for this hat became rather obvious after mulling it around in my head for a bit. I like to name all of my patterns for Wyoming landmarks, but I was reserving “Old Faithful” for a pattern of profound depth. Yet, after some internal banter, I decided that this hat is indeed a beloved classic in my repertoire and is absolutely deserving of the title.
This hat is one of my most popular designs. I regularly receive requests for it and I’m always surprised. What makes this hat so desirable? I see patterns for similar hats all the time. This is certainly not a pattern that has never been done before, but I feel there is something that makes this design more appealing when compared to others of its kind.
My pattern uses two strands of worsted weight yarn in colors that compliment each other. This leaves room for some creative freedom and makes each hat unique. I love pairing colors together for these hats and I wanted to make a great pairing for the pattern example in order to do its name justice.
Therefore, I dug through my stash of Lion Brand Heartland and found the perfect colors. The yellow strand is in the colorway Yellowstone, which, if you are unaware, happens to be the home of the Old Faithful geyser. I wanted the other color to represent water, so I chose the colorway Glacier Bay, which made a great contrasting pop that complimented the yellow.
I hope you enjoy this pattern ♥

Weave the yarn around the top of the hat and cinch it shut
Weave the needle between stitches and pull tight to close the top.
